Worldwide, there are an estimated 100 million children living on the
streets.
Nearly 115 million children do not attend school.
An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked each year into
exploitive work in industrial factories, mine shafts, agricultural
fields, armed conflict and commercial sex.
Of the 10 million deaths that occur each year among children under
the age of five, 6 million were preventable.
Everyday, nearly 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes.
This amounts to one child every five seconds.
We may have heard these statistics before. Yet how many of us can
comprehend the enormity of these numbers? In many cases,
understanding the challenges that children face globally requires
having the opportunity to walk the dirt streets of an underdeveloped
country and witness the despair in the eyes of the children who call
those streets home.
Anyone who has seen this suffering will identify with Umoja
International’s drive to help society’s most vulnerable members.
These children need someone to care. They need people like you
to make a difference. It’s time to help strengthen the world one
child at a time. After all, these children are our futures.
